FLIGHT RISK
Following the failed attempt by Richard Reid tried to ignite explosive powder hidden in his shoes, all passengers were required to remove their shoes for separate scanning prior to boarding. I used to joke that we had all better hope that no one tries anything with their underwear. Uh-oh.
Soo ... what do you think the response will be now that some guy tried to blow up a plane by igniting explosive powder hidden in the lining of his underwear? Using a blanket over his lap to hide what he was doing? After spending a noticeably long time in the rest room? So far the response has been limited to restrictions on blankets. I shudder to think about what might be the next wrinkle in airport security.
These questions are not entirely academic as I will be flying to Florida in a couple of weeks. What will I be required to surrender or remove for inspection prior to boarding? What is the proper choice in gentlemen's undergarments in such circumstances? Kind of gives a new twist to the old question: "Boxers or briefs?"
