THE WRITING LIFE INTERRUPTED

I haven't really done much novel writing in the last few days. Partly because I have been busy with other stuff. It would be nice to be able to do nothing but write, hell it would be nice to do nothing, but neither is a realistic option so attention must be paid to the quotidian.

Another reason I haven't done much actual writing is that I have taken the advice of the blogs devoted to first time authors, and I am doing a one-page summary of the main characters, laying out each one's personal history, their motivations, their place in the scheme of things. That made sense, so that's what I have been doing for the last few days, with what can best be described as mixed or mixed-up results.

The biggest problem is that I've done a lot of writing, but some of the basic descriptive writing doesn't come that easily to me. Sooo, I thought it might be good to search the internet for pictures of people that matched the mental image I had for each character. One of my characters is a married woman who is 37 years old at the time an important part of the story unfolds.

I Googled "female 37 years old." Oops! I ended up looking at a lot of prospective Ukrainian brides. Luckily I found just what I needed without having to visit a lot of matchmaking sites. Let's hope that my writing can bring the picture to life in something less than 1,00 words.

IN QUOTES

"Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public."

Winston Churchill
