RESET
When I first resumed blogging with Every Man A Giant, I had a very clear vision of what I wanted to do. I wanted to write about a greater variety of topics, especially science. I wanted to write very short essays that would get there and back in a couple of hundred words or less.
The one thing I did not want to do was to write just about politics. Well, guess what? Looking back over my archives, the preponderance of writing is political pieces about 400 words in length. Exactly what I did not want to see happen, because quite honestly politics no longer holds my interest as it used to do.
Partly because there is nothing new that anyone can tell me about politics that I haven't already seen after 50 years of paying fairly close attention. Partly because like a well made knife, good discourse should have a balance between edge and heft. On the internet, we have way too much edge and not enough heft when it comes to politics.
The other thing is that I have started another blog, Planet Restart. The focus is on climate change, but there is a very strong political and social component, so I get the best of both worlds. Plus, this is a subject I believe in.
Wait, it gets worse. There is — don't laugh — a book I have been wanting to write for many years. I'm not getting any younger, so it is pretty much time to either put up or shut up.
That doesn’t mean I am abandoning Every Man A Giant. I will continue to post pieces but they will be more like a true journal, a record of whatever catches my fancy at the moment, more for my future reference than anything else. If you want to get an idea of what it will be like, go back in the archives to the first couple of months.
So as they would say in Italy, "Ciao." Goodbye and hello.
