VIVA THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS!

I’m off to Florida again for the Labor Day weekend. But before I go I wanted to share with you my bold new vision for helping the country get past the bitter bipartisanship that has left both liberals and conservatives with frayed nerves and frustrated political ambitions.

It came to me as I was listening to The Chris Matthews Show the other night. Chris was ripping into Texas Governor Rick Perry for hyping talk about Texas seceding from the Union. I thought to myself, "Whoa there, hoss. What exactly is the problem with that?" I could see the potential for a huge win-win, one that benefits conservatives and liberals alike.

Think about it, all you red meat conservatives. You could have a country you could call you own, a country where you could cut taxes to your heart's content. No more worrying about leftist plots like health insurance reform or global warming. No more worrying about the IRS or living in the Socialist Republic of Obama. Hell, no. Y'all would be citizens of the Ree-Public of Texas.

Think about it, all you leftist liberals and socialists. Those right-wing teabaggers would be in another country. They couldn't even visit us unless we gave them a passport, like that would happen. With all the right-wing nut jobs living in Texas, that would give the rest of us a chance to finally make progress of reforming health care and slowing down global warming.

Honestly, I can't see any downside to this plan. I would be willing to consider a one-time amnesty to let people move in or out of Texas. But after that, I see nothing but smooth sailing. To quote a great Texan, "Bring it on."
