POLITICS DOES MATTER
How many of you out there have at one time or another said "I don't understand why anyone would get into politics. They are all a bunch of crooks." Well, today, as the House debates the passage of landmark health care reform legislation, you have your answer.
That is why you get into politics. To make a difference. To make history. Sure, it doesn't happen every day. On most days, most politicians live up to or exceed the stereotypes.
But today, some legislators will get to make history. Think about it. Who the hell ever heard of Bart Stupak before now? His decision on whether or not to support health care reform will sink the bill or seal the deal. One way or another, he will make history today.
So the next time you turn up your nose at a politician, just remember this. At least they were there when it counted. They were part of the band of brothers, "we few we happy few" to quote Henry V. They made history. That's more than I can say. How about you?
Hell, you might even want to think about running for office yourself. History is always looking for a few good men or women.
